Pijar Journal of Islamic Economics and Finance (PJIEF)
Plagiarism Policy
The Editorial Board of the Pijar Journal of Islamic Economics and Finance adheres to the principle of academic integrity and does not tolerate any form of intellectual dishonesty, including plagiarism. We implement strict and transparent policies to ensure that every published manuscript is original work that makes a significant contribution to the literature on Islamic economics and finance.
1. Detection and Threshold
To ensure the authenticity of manuscripts, the Pijar Journal of Islamic Economics and Finance uses Turnitin software as a standard similarity test (similarity index).
• Threshold: The maximum permissible similarity level is 20%.
• Initial Action: Manuscripts with a similarity index above 20% will be returned to the author for revision (if the excess percentage is due to technical reasons) or rejected outright (Desk Reject) if there are indications of serious plagiarism before the manuscript is processed to the review stage.
2. Definition of Plagiarism
In our journal, plagiarism is defined as the act of taking another person's ideas, data, or writing (including one's own previously published work) and claiming it as one's own work without proper attribution or citation. This includes:
• Verbatim: Copying word for word without using quotation marks ("...") and without citing the original source.
• Paraphrasing: Changing the sentence structure of another person without changing the main idea and without citing the source.
• Self-Plagiarism: Reusing significant portions of one's own published work without clear citation.
3. Classification of Violations and Sanctions
If indications of plagiarism are found, the Editor-in-Chief has full authority to investigate and impose sanctions according to the severity:
• If indications of plagiarism are found, the Editor-in-Chief has full authority to investigate and impose sanctions based on the severity, which are classified into three main categories.
• First, Minor violations include cases with a similarity level of less than 20%, technical in nature (such as in the bibliography) or short quotations without the intention of stealing data/ideas, as well as the lack of quotation marks in copied sentences. For this category, corrective sanctions are given in the form of Warnings and Revisions, where the author is required to re-paraphrase and correct citations within the specified time limit.
• Second, Moderate violations occur when a large portion of the manuscript is similar without proper attribution or significant self-plagiarism is found (above 20%). The strict action taken for this violation is Rejection of the Manuscript (Manuscript) with a 1-Year Embargo, which means the author is prohibited from submitting new manuscripts to this journal for a period of one year.
• Third, Severe violations are the most serious category and include the theft of main ideas, fabrication of data, copying a large portion of another person's manuscript (duplication), or multiple submissions to other journals simultaneously. Sanctions for this violation include Manuscript Rejection and a 5-Year to Permanent Embargo, depending on the final decision of the Editorial Board. It is important to note that this embargo applies collectively to all authors listed on the manuscript, not just the corresponding author.
4. Repeat Offenders (Recidivism)
If an author is found to have committed plagiarism for the second time in the Pijar Journal of Islamic Economics and Finance:
• A decision will be made through a special Editorial Board meeting.
• The sanction is a Permanent Ban; the author is blacklisted and is prohibited from submitting further manuscripts to this journal indefinitely.
5. Self-Plagiarism and Redundant Publication
• Self-Plagiarism: Authors are permitted to cite their own published work, but must provide clear citations to avoid the impression that it is new.
• Conference Articles (Proceedings): Manuscripts that are developments of conference proceedings will be accepted ONLY IF they contain substantial developments (at least 30-50% new content/data), have a different title, and include a citation to the original proceedings. Authors must declare this at the time of submission.
• Simultaneous Submission: Submitting the same manuscript to Pijar Journal of Islamic Economics and Finance and another journal simultaneously is considered a serious ethical violation. If proven, the manuscript will be withdrawn and official notification will be sent to the other journal.
6. Oversight Mechanism
The Managing Editor is responsible for maintaining a database of sanctioned authors. Each new manuscript will be verified against this database. This policy is published openly on the journal's website and deemed to have been understood and agreed to by the authors at the time they submitted the manuscript.
